Payment Processing

This guide explains how payments work on OKNowShop marketplace from a seller's perspective.

How Payments Work

When a customer makes a purchase from your store:

  1. Customer pays - Payment is securely processed through Stripe
  2. Order confirmed - You receive the order in your Partner Portal
  3. You fulfill - Ship the order to the customer
  4. Financial state recorded - Eligibility, review, adjustment, and transfer states progress under the current agreement

Payment Methods (current checkout)

Buyers pay on-page through Stripe. Card details are never stored on OKNowShop servers.

MethodAvailabilityDetails
Credit/Debit CardsAll eligible ordersVisa, Mastercard, Amex via Stripe Payment Element
Apple PaySupported Safari / iOS devicesWallet checkout (Stripe Payment Request / express checkout)
Google PaySupported Chrome / Android devicesWallet checkout (Stripe Payment Request / express checkout)

Not currently available

MethodStatusWhy it is not currently available
AfterpayDeferredBNPL approval is an off-site / return-url flow; current checkout uses pure in-page Stripe card rails
Zip PayDeferredSame BNPL redirect/resume requirement as Afterpay
PayPalDeferredFull-page redirect approval is not currently supported; any return needs a non–full-page integration

When those methods ship, this page will be updated. Until then, do not promise Afterpay, Zip, or PayPal to your customers.

Sellers still receive marketplace settlement through the normal order and payout path for captured card and wallet payments. You do not currently configure Afterpay, Zip, or PayPal credentials in Partner Portal.

Order Payment Statuses

StatusMeaning
PendingPayment is being processed
CapturedPayment successful, ready to fulfill
FailedPayment was declined
RefundedFull refund issued to customer
Partially RefundedPartial refund issued
DisputedCustomer has filed a dispute

Fees

Transaction Fees

The fee engine can record:

  • a platform commission;
  • a loyalty funding component;
  • a per-seller order fee; and
  • payment-provider processing.

The applicable amount can come from a seller-specific override, a category rate, or the default rate card. Use the public commission-rate card and signed-in Fees & Pricing page for an estimate; use the accepted order's fee records for the actual charge.

This guide deliberately does not publish a worked example. A static example can be wrong for the seller, category, provider mix, refund state, or current agreement. See Marketplace Loyalty for the loyalty boundary.

Refunds

How Refunds Work

  1. The customer starts an order-linked return or support path.
  2. The return is assessed through the control available for the account.
  3. An authorised refund enters the payment-provider workflow.
  4. The return, provider refund, fee adjustment, and seller financial record are reconciled as separate states.

Refund Timeline

Provider and issuer timing varies. Use the refund status and provider reference shown for the actual transaction; do not promise a fixed bank-arrival period.

Partial Refunds

Partial-refund capability depends on the authorised order/return control and the recorded refundable amount. Do not infer it from a general payment status.

Disputes (Chargebacks)

If a customer disputes a charge with their bank:

  1. Notification - You'll receive an email and Partner Portal alert
  2. Evidence submission - Provide proof of delivery, communication, etc.
  3. Resolution - the payment provider and issuer review the case on the timeline shown for that dispute

Preventing Disputes

  • Ship promptly and provide tracking
  • Respond to customer inquiries quickly
  • Ensure product descriptions are accurate
  • Use clear photos

Payouts

The supported payout story

  1. Buyer payment is captured through the checkout provider.
  2. You fulfil the order and the marketplace records the applicable delivery/completion state.
  3. Eligibility is calculated under the current seller agreement and financial policy, including any stated reserve, adjustment, refund, or dispute treatment.
  4. OKNowShop reviews the payable amount before money movement is approved.
  5. Stripe Connect transfers an approved amount to the connected account; provider and bank processing then determine arrival.

Connect Stripe during onboarding. Your subscription plan does not buy organic search placement or an undocumented preferential payout path.

This guide deliberately does not publish a fixed hold percentage, release window, daily/weekly batch promise, or bank-arrival SLA. Those terms must come from the current seller agreement and the records shown for your account. If the portal does not show an applicable term or payout status, contact seller support before promising or accounting for a date.

Supported destinations:

  • Australian bank accounts (via Stripe Express / Connect)
  • Other accounts Stripe Connect supports for your region

Keep the stages separate

Phrase people useWhat it actually means here
“The order says delivered”Delivery/completion can make a line eligible for evaluation; it is not an approved transfer.
“A payout record exists”A record can still be pending review, adjusted, failed, or awaiting provider action.
“Stripe transferred it”Bank arrival is a later provider/bank state.

Viewing Payment History

In Partner Portal:

  1. Open Financial Records (/financials)
  2. Use Fees & Pricing (/financials/fees) for fee schedule views
  3. Export/CSV where the portal provides it for your accountant

Tax Information

GST

If you are GST-registered, you are responsible for remitting GST on your taxable sales to the ATO. The Partner portal shows marketplace activity and recorded fees. It does not calculate your GST or prepare a BAS. See Tax Obligations for details.

Invoices and activity records

Use Financial Records → Invoices for recorded fee invoices and Marketplace activity (/financials/taxes) for delivered-sales and recorded-fee totals. These records are accounting inputs, not tax advice.

Support

For payment-related questions:

  • Order payments & disputes: Partner Portal order and dispute workflows first
  • Payout / Connect issues: Portal financial views + onboarding Connect status; escalate via the support path in your agreement/onboarding email if the portal cannot progress
  • Fees explanation: Fees & Pricing in portal when signed in
